Santiagos Square in Guimaraes

The square of Santiago of Guimarães gets its name from the tradition that the apostle brought Guimaraes  a statue of the Virgin Mary and was installed in an old pagan temple that was in place.
Legends aside, the Praça de Santiago is an open space that retains its medieval idiosyncrasy, throughout the history of the city is mentioned in several documents, since it is the area where the Franks settled that accompanied Portugal to Count Henrique de Borgonha Sun , father of Afonso Henriques first King of Portugal.
