The Marquess of Pombal Square is an important roundabout in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. It is located between the Avenida da Liberdade (Liberty Avenue) and the Eduardo VII Park.

The square is the radiating point for various important avenues: Liberdade, Duque de Loulé and Fontes Pereira de Melo, as well as the streets Braamcamp and Joaquim António de Aguiar.

Its name is a reference to Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, 1st Marquess of Pombal, 1st Count of Oeiras, the mighty prime-minister who ruled Portugal from 1750 to 1777. In the middle of the roundabout there is a large column dedicated to him, built between 1917 and 1934 and created by Adães Bermudes, António Couto and Francisco Santos. A bronze statue of the Marquess is on the top, with a lion - symbol of power - by his side. The Marquis is shown looking towards the Baixa Pombalina, the area of Lisbon that was rebuilt under his direction after the disastrous 1755 Lisbon Earthquake.

Located right in the top of the journey of the Gloria Elevator, nearby one of the many entrances for the Bairro Alto, this View point provides a gorgeous perspective over the Lisboa’s Eastern side, namely

the appealing old quarters of Graça and São Vicente de Fora and the São Jorge Castle. 

The shades from the trees that surround this Miradouro make it even more pleasant, along with comfortable benches to better benefit of this lovely sight. 

The best views are in the end of the day, when the lights of Lisbon are lit and the slope of the castle is lightened. 

At night time the Miradouro is a popular meeting point for young people, that many times here concentrate to ensue to the unforgettable Bairro Alto night.

The Parque das Nações , or  Park of Nations ,  is a part of theLisbon art, created for the EXPO98 , which offers visitors endless opportunities to spend time.

With a modern architectural landmarks, is organized in a harmonious way to make the time spent here will be of great pleasure.

Facing the river, the Parque das Nações allows only walks in the city, enjoying an excellent relationship with all elements of their environment.

On foot, by bicycle or using one of the transports available to rent, this is a worthwhile trip.
