The Majestic Café is located in Rua Santa Catarina,
the main shopping street of the Porto city.
It is a unique and charming cafe in the second decade
of the twentieth century with a particular decor and atmosphere that makes
visitors recall the years of the Belle Époque of the city.
It frequented by the high society of Oporto,
intellectuals and bohemians, opened its doors in 1921 calling themselves Elite,
and a year later happened changed its name to Café Majestic.
La luxurious ornamentation conformed the style of the
place, with mirrors, cherubim, marbles, candelabra and delicate woods.
In this cafe the British author J.K. Rowling devised
some chapters of his first book in the series Harry Potter and the
Philosopher's Stone.
The Majestic Café closed its doors in 1964 and did not
open until 1980 after a reform in 1983 was declared cultural heritage of Porto.
Undoubtedly this
is one of the most emblematic places of Oporto, and a claim for
visitors who flock to the city.

is reflected in their prices, coffee costs 2.50 euros, nearly 5 times the usual
