Every good postcard shows the colorful Oporto and picturesque image of the city from its best angle : the Ribeira . This walk along the river is must for tourists or residents. In the Ribeira are good restaurants with typical food of Porto, usually with very good prices.
Since the Ribeira is observed bridge Dom Luiz I , built in 1877 by Teófilo Seyrig , who was a partner of Eiffel ( yes, the same Parisian tower ) and that this relationship is confused authorship. For the construction of the bridge was called for an international competition , which is the winning design . Awe, two iron levels and tissue , gives the picture a nineteenth-century elegance . The lower level can be crossed on foot or by car , the top is also possible to go through it as a pedestrian or the subway that runs through it , a yellow line or line D , direction Dom João I.
In the spring we can expect in the Ribeira , you can also buy a ticket for a ride on the Douro river , with different options : in small traditional boats , making a short path for the bridges between Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia. This ride lasts for about 50 minutes bridges often includes food. There is also the option of a larger boat or cruise ship , the ride may be even a day , and bring the audience to the place where they grow the grapes that make wine of port.
In the Ribeira Square , now full of chairs of different restaurants , we found the Palace Square Chapel length , is popularly known as the Lady of the OR , the source and the characteristic Taurine wall decorated with bows as you walk between the shops and restaurants. Do not miss the peculiar engraving showing the feat lived by the people of Porto to prevent the entry of Napoleon's troops , who decided to collapse the bridge that connected the city and then die not to yield . The dead are still remembered portuenses under the name of "as Alminhas " ( the little souls ) , worshiped as a kind of martyr .
The beauty of the Ribeira , Porto and the other is that it has not lost its particularities, and amid tents made specifically for tourists , are the homes of its people , with everyday wind drying your clothes. Needless venture between its streets (which we highly recommend it , anyway ) to find the genuine. In Oporto the peixeiras - traditional fishmongers - and large international businesses cross the street together day after day, as if time had split in two, stopped going for some and for many others.
Walking the Ribeira full arm can reach the Church of San Francisco , the Palacio de la Bolsa, or the House of the Infante.
