The city of Tomar about 40 miles from Lisbon, is a handsome small city, on the banks of the Rio Nabão.
The castle which was built in 1160 under Gualdim Pais, the fourth
master of the order of the Templars. The grid of the downtown Rua Serpa
Pinta, or the 'Corredor' as it is called, is the main pedestrian street
in the old town and provides a stunning view up to the castle. in
summer the cobbled boulevard is a must for tourists and locals sipping
cooling coffee at the many outdoor cafes.
