The village of Almeida, in the district of Guarda , is situated at 2.5 km from the right bank of the River Coa , and approximately 7 km from the border with Spain.
The municipality of Almeida is constituted by 29 parishes and has a considerable historical heritage wealth.
There are three historic districts: The Medieval Village of Castelo Mendo , Castelo Novo and the center of the village of Almeida circumscribed by its strong track military bastion. The municipality is served by the railway line from Beira Alta and the IP5 . This route has two access intersections to the City, one through the National Highway 324 and the other at Vilar Formoso . Seen from the air, this town fortified like a 12-pointed star.
